Role Overview

IRAP is hiring a U.S. Litigation Deputy Director to help lead impact litigation efforts aimed at expanding pathways to safety for refugees and displaced people. The role is part of the Legal Leadership Team, supervises attorneys and fellows, and maintains a litigation caseload.

Key Responsibilities (Summary)

  • Lead and develop impact litigation strategies and casework.

  • Supervise litigation attorneys, fellows, and legal staff.

  • Support team growth, hiring, mentorship, and professional development.

  • Coordinate with policy, communications, direct services, and operations teams.

  • Participate in fundraising-related meetings when needed.

Ideal Candidate

  • Licensed U.S. attorney, eligible to practice in relevant state.

  • 7+ years litigation experience, preferably in civil rights or human rights.

  • Background in refugee or immigration law is strongly welcomed.

  • Experience supervising legal teams.

  • Strong commitment to anti-racist and inclusive legal practice.

  • Excellent project management, communication, and writing skills.

  • Additional language skills are a plus.

Location & Travel

  • NYC strongly preferred, but DC or remote may be possible.

  • Must be able to travel for court appearances and collaboration.

  • Remote staff must be available during EST working hours and travel frequently to NY.
